Alligator

Description

They are the large reptiles like crocodiles. Alligators tend to be smaller than their Crocodile cousins. The males grow up to 4.5 meters in length and females tends to be smaller .And the Chinese alligator is smaller than American Alligators. Alligator is incredibly muscular and is used to propel the animal when it is in the water. Alligators have short, stocky legs with webbing between their toes. This helps them in swimming .These species are more than 150 million years old and they managed to avoid extinction 65 million years ago.They are the large reptiles like crocodiles. Distribution

American Alligators are found in the southern –eastern USA, Florida, Louisiana, Southern Georgia, Alabama and eastern Texas. And southern Florida is the only known place in the world where the both alligator species are known to be live in the same place. The Chinese alligators are found only in Yangtze River Valley and they’re extremely endangered, only 100 Alligators are found in the wild. But there’re many Alligators left in zoos.

These creatures are known to be having 80 teeth and shaped for biting down on prey .And they can regrow their teeth back when they are lost. They doesn’t attack humans but they may attack if threatened. The American Alligator were once endangered species but thanks to habitat protection and federal laws protecting them, populations throughout Florida and Louisiana have recovered. But the situation of wild Chinese Alligators is very different because of the individual population is less than 100.And they are critically endangered species by now.













However considering the both species they now have been threatened by habitat degradation and water pollution .So we should protect them in order to keep the balance of nature
